What is the deadline to withdraw from my program or drop to part-time status, according to Sheridan’s Winter Experience Guarantee?

You'll have until 11:59pm on Friday, February 12th to request to withdraw or drop to part-time status without financial nor academic penalty. Once we receive your request you will be connected with the Student Advisement Team to discuss your next steps and options. You should expect to hear from Student Advisement within 1-3 business days, but if you would like to connect sooner, please email askanadvisor@sheridancollege.ca.

I would like to drop some courses but not withdraw entirely from my program. Am I still eligible for a partial refund?

Yes – you may still be eligible for a partial refund if you request to switch to part-time status by the Winter Experience Guarantee deadline of February 12. Sheridan’s Student Advisement team can help you make an informed decision about switching to part-time studies.

Please note that the amount eligible for a refund depends on the number of courses dropped, and may vary by program.

How long will it take to receive my refund, and how will I know when it's been processed?

Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your refund. Your Account Summary will be updated in myStudentCentre once your refund has been processed.

Which fees are eligible for a refund?

  • Deposit
  • Tuition
  • Program fees, including kit and material fees
  • Ancillary fees
  • Health insurance (for both domestic and international students)
    • Sheridan will follow up with the insurance providers to determine if they will reimburse or prorate Sheridan for the unused portion (or a portion) of the fees given the individual student's policy has been cancelled
    • If you withdraw and want to maintain your insurance (or if you're an international student residing in Ontario and are required to maintain your insurance), you're entitled to a full refund minus the insurance fee you paid to Sheridan
  • OSAP loans will be returned to the National Student Loans Centre, where applicable
  • Bursary amounts will be reversed

Please note that residence fees are NOT eligible for a refund, and tuition and fees are only refundable if there are no outstanding fees on your account.

How will my refund be processed?

If you're a domestic student, you'll receive a refund by cheque, which will be mailed within 4-6 weeks to the current address on file. Please make sure the address shown on your myStudentCentre account is up to date.

If you're an international student with a domestic address on file, you'll receive a refund by cheque, which will be mailed within 4-6 weeks to the current address on file. Please make sure the address shown on your myStudentCentre account is up to date, in case you are no longer living in Canada.

If you're an international student with an international address on file, your refund will be issued by wire transfer. If this applies to you, the International Centre will contact you for more details.

I have an outstanding balance owed to Sheridan in my account. Am I still eligible for a refund? Which fees are eligible for a refund?

Your charges and payments will be reviewed to determine the amount eligible for a refund. Any outstanding balance from a previous term will be deducted from your refund amount. To view any outstanding balances you may have, see your Account Summary in myStudentCentre.

I receive OSAP funding. How will my refund be processed?

For students who receive OSAP funding, the eligible refund amount will be sent back to the National Student Loans Services Centre per the direction of our Financial Aid Office and in accordance with Ministry policy.

Would I be refunded my health insurance fee if I withdraw from my program?

Yes. You're eligible to receive a full refund of your health insurance fee if you choose to fully withdraw from your program. Sheridan will follow-up with the insurance providers to determine if they will reimburse or prorate Sheridan for the unused portion (or a portion) of the fees given the individual student's policy has been cancelled.

If you wish to withdraw but would like to maintain your insurance (or if you're required to do so, as an international student residing in Ontario), you're entitled to a full refund minus the health insurance fees paid to Sheridan.

Will I be eligible for a refund after February 12 if I receive a Stage 2 visa refusal?

Due to extenuating circumstances caused by the current COVID-19 pandemic, if you receive a Stage 2 visa refusal after the official refund period (February 12th, 2020 for this term), you may apply for an exception to obtain a refund, as per Sheridan’s Fees Refund/Reversal of Charge Appeal Policy and Fees Refund/Reversal of Charge Appeal for Students

If you receive a Stage 2 visa refusal and wish to withdraw, you're required to:

  1. Complete the Application for Term or Complete Program Withdrawal in myStudent Centre
  2. Submit a copy of the visa refusal from IRCC as per section 4.3.4 of the related Procedure along with the Application for Fees Refund/Reversal of Charges

The Fee Refund Appeal Committee will then consider your request for a refund of tuition minus any non-refundable fees as per Paragraph 4.3.5 of the related Procedure (i.e. health insurance fees, program kit fees, etc.). You will not receive academic credit for any term in which you receive a refund. The application and required documents must be received by Sheridan by the end of the Winter 2021 term in order to be considered for a refund.
