The Government of Canada has introduced further measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19 in Canada. One of those measures is that all travelers must reserve a government-authorized hotel for three nights before boarding their flight*.

 

*As of August 9 at 12:01am, the mandatory quarantine hotel stay will be eliminated. Sheridan will still offer the Quarantine Support Bursary to students who choose to quarantine at a hotel upon their arrival in Canada. Students that choose to quarantine in another location are not eligible for the bursary support.

 

If you must attend classes on campus for your Fall term program, we are committed to supporting our international students and are pleased to offer you a bursary for your 3-night hotel stay, for up to $1200 CDN.

Who qualifies for the Quarantine Support Bursary?

New and returning international students, enrolled in a hybrid program or a program that requires to be on campus for the Fall 2021. Students who have previously received Quarantine Support Bursary funding are not eligible for this bursary.

 

What do I need to know about the mandatory* hotel stay?

  1. All travelers arriving in Canada by air must reserve and prepay for a government-authorized hotel for three nights before boarding their flight to Canada.

  2. After taking a COVID-19 test on arrival at the airport in Canada, you must stay in the government-authorized hotel that you booked before you travelled to Canada. This will allow you to safely await your COVID-19 test results.

  3. When you have received a negative test result, you will be allowed to complete the remainder of your 14-day quarantine at your planned location.

Please note: the hotel itinerary/booking confirmation must include your name in order to apply for the Quarantine Support Bursary.

What do I need to do in order to receive the bursary?

  1. Before your trip, complete Sheridan’s My Quarantine Form to inform us of your travel and quarantine plans

  2. When you have made your mandatory hotel stopover arrangements, share these arrangements with Sheridan.

  3. After your 3-night hotel stay, submit your receipts to us. Once you enrol in courses for the Fall term, you will receive another email with instructions on how to submit your receipts.

  4. If you follow all the steps and meet all the requirements, we will credit your student account up to $1200.00 CDN by Day 10 of the term.

* If you shared your hotel room with more than one guest, it is assumed that the hotel costs were split. As such, you will only be considered for a bursary for your share of the hotel costs. For example:

    • Two guests per room: 1/2 the hotel costs up to a maximum of $600.
    • Three guests per room: 1/3 the hotel costs up to a maximum of $400
    • Four guests per room: 1/4 the hotel costs up to a maximum of $300

How do I submit my hotel receipt to Sheridan?

 

Once you enrol in courses for the Fall term, you will receive another email with instructions on how to submit your receipts. Only students enrolled in a hybrid term or are required to be on campus for the Fall 2021 term can apply and receive this bursary; please also check this page regularly for other updates.

What is the deadline to submit hotel receipts?


The deadline to apply and submit hotel documentation for the Quarantine Support Bursary is October 8, 2021.

 

How will I know if I qualify for the Quarantine Support Bursary?

 

Students will be informed of the bursary decision to their Sheridan student email. Processing times will vary and depend on the number of applications received. Please allow up to 4 weeks from the time your application has been submitted to receive a decision.

 

If there are any discrepancies with your application, you will be notified directly through your Sheridan student email.

 

All decisions are final and not appealable.

 

How will I receive the Quarantine Support Bursary?

 

If you are approved for the bursary, it will be applied to your Sheridan student account towards any outstanding fees.

 

If you have paid your fees in full, a cheque will be mailed to the Canadian mailing address on file. Please ensure that you have updated your mailing address to your current Canadian mailing address. If your address has not been updated, this will result in delays in receiving your bursary. You can update your mailing address in myStudent Centre.
