Information for Employers

Work Study provides financial assistance to students by helping generate employment opportunities within the College that encourage self-help and self-development, while also giving students a way to enhance their resumes in preparation for the transition to full-time employment.

Student positions should be posted through the Sheridan Career Centre, via Sheridan Works.

Students must secure employment before applying for Work Study consideration. If Work Study eligibility is a requirement for hire, employers are responsible for verifying this in their recruitment process, and are encouraged to use the Work Study Budget Template to evaluate if applicants are likely to demonstrate financial need.

It is the hiring department’s responsibility to ensure that individuals meet the criteria for student employment. Connect with your HR Business Partner for assistance and additional information.

Application Information for Employers

Students must complete a new Work Study application each term. A student will be considered for Work Study for one position per term.

Students must submit their Work Study application using the link provided.

Employers are required to provide students the necessary Employment Information, as per their contract, to accurately complete their application, including:

  • Department number – the 5-digit department number that is part of the account thread used to pay the student. This number is required to ensure that Work Study funds are reimbursed to the correct account,
  • Contract start date – as per the employment contract submitted to HR,
  • Contract end date – as per the employment contract submitted to HR,
  • Hours/week – if this varies, provide an estimate of the average,
  • Hourly rate of pay – do not include vacation or fringe,
  • Work Study decision confirmation recipient(s) – name of the individual(s) who should be copied on the application decision email sent to the student.

Applications are reviewed in the order they are received, and decisions are made within two weeks from the date students submit their application. Employers may email workstudy@sheridancollege.ca once the two weeks has passed to check on status.

Students may request one opportunity to review and update their application if it is denied. If their application is denied a second time or they were not able to successfully submit it by the deadline due to extenuating circumstances, the student may request a formal Application Review. The student should email workstudy@sheridancollege.ca for further details.

It is the hiring department's responsibility to complete and submit Employment forms.
